HD Constructions

22 Iluka Rd Palm Beach

Problem

Construct a tanked basement 2.2m below the water table on the edge of pittwater on a small residensial block, excavate and internally brace the walls

Solution

•De-watering by Coates Shorco •Geocast walls 2.2m below the water table •Waterproofing spray-on membrane (Liquid Boot was applied over the sand at the excavation level and up the Geocast walls to the underside of the ground floor slab) •After the pouring of the basement slab Geocast applied 100mm of shot crete to sandwich the Liquid Boot membrane to the Geocast wall

6m Geocast walls in the sand

Meriton Apartments

ACI Site, Stage 7 & 8, South Dowling St, Waterloo

Problem

A retaining wall system that would be able to install walls in sand to meet Meriton’s tight construction programme.

Solution

Selected the Geocast System over alternate methods (sheet piling, contiguous piles) and installed ??? sq m of Geocast wall and ??? temporary sand anchors to meet the extremely tight construction programme.

Tanked basement 1.5 m into watertable

Meriton Apartments

Cnr Rothschild Ave & Epsom Rd, Rosebery

Problem

Construct a tanked basement 1.7m below the water table.

Solution

With our alliance partners, Coates Shorco and Penetron Products, proposed a total solution:

  • Geocast for Geocast walls in unstable soil conditions
  • Coates Shorco for de-watering
  • Penetron Products for waterproofing

The solution was achieved as follows:

  • De-watering the site by having Coates Shorco install spears around the perimeter of 450 l/m of the Geocast wall using in total 9 pumps
  • On completion of the Geocast wall the site was excavated 6m - 1.6m into the water table
  • The de-watering achieved a completely dry basement for an area of over 10,000 sq m basement
  • For the Geocast wall we used a Penetron add mixture to the concrete
  • Penetron then used a blanket under the slab and up the Geocast wall
  • The basement slab was then poured sandwiching the blanket between the wall and the slab

Confined space, 50mm from boundary

Kell & Rigby

Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach

Problem

  • Excavating sand only 50mm away from an existing building that was constructed in the early 1900s.
  • Needed to ensure that the vibration and movement by the adjacent property was kept to a minimum, so as not to disturb its foundations.

Solution

  • After reviewing the conventional methods of casting retaining walls, such as sheet piling and contiguous piling, they found these methods would cause too much vibration to the adjacent property and probably result in partial collapse of the building.
  • Their preferred option was to use the Geocast System who are able to construct retaining walls in sand.

Tanked basement showing de-watering

Beach Constructions

Dover Rd, Rose Bay

Problem

Construct a tanked basement 1.5m below the water table.

Solution

By combining our skills and the expertise of Coates Shorco & Liquid Boot, a total-solutions package that delivered the following:

  • De-watering by Coates Shorco
  • Geocast walls 1.5m below the water table
  • Waterproofing spray-on membrane (Liquid Boot was applied over the sand at the excavation level and up the Geocast walls to the underside of the ground floor slab)
  • After the pouring of the basement slab Geocast applied 75mm of shot crete to sandwich the Liquid Boot membrane to the Geocast wall

Kalnin Corporation

Rosehill St, Redfern

Problem

To construct a 3-level basement car park within 100mm of an extremely old apartment building, the WaterTower, without causing damage to the old building through vibration.

An added problem was that due to the old age of the building, Geocast needed to overcome the problem of brick footings sitting on a sand foundation.

Solution

  • Using the non-vibration Geocast System for installing walls, Geocast installed two overlapping walls to achieve the required height.
  • As a non-vibrating system was essential due the extremely old age and proximity of the Geocast wall to the WaterTower Apartments, Geocast monitored any movement during excavation and construction of the wall.
  • After extensive ongoing surveying, there was no movement detected in the adjoining WaterTower Building.
